Restless Eyes
I have often had conversations with people while viewing my work who will, at some point, ask: “how did you find that?”
And my answer is almost always the same: “I was looking for it”.
This may seem an odd answer as my basic work method is to wander around until I see something that interests me enough to photograph. Or, as the French might say: Photographe Flaneur. So, how can I be looking for something when I don’t even know what it is I’m looking for?
Well, I know it when I see it.
This is what photographers do. We look at things. If we’re awake, we’re looking. If we’re alive,we’re looking.
Todd Hido speaks for most photographers when he says: “I have an insatiable appetite for looking”.
And what we see is often not what most people see.
So the images in this series are all about what I’m looking at, even if it doesn’t appear that I’m looking at anything at all…
